Dolf Verroen made his debut in 1957 with Marieta’s victory and since then has continued to add to his impressive output. His children’s books The cat in the curtains (1979), How did you know that? (1981) and A lion with long teeth (1987) won the Zilveren Griffel. Wie schön weiß ich bin (Sleep child sleep) won the German Gustav-Heinemann-Friends Award for Children’s and Young Adult Books in 2006 . Together with Thé Tjong-Khing, Verroen produced the Picture Book of the 2011 Children’s Book Week: The prince on the white horse. In 2013, on the occasion of the coronation of King Willem-Alexander, the same partnership created Where is the crown?. In 2016, Verroen’s War and friendship was the Children’s Book Week gift, appearing this year in German as Krieg und Freundschaft.
