Joost Swarte is a cartoonist and graphic designer. Among his many other works, he also designed stained glass windows, wrought-iron sculptures, postage stamps, record album and CD covers, and created countless illustrations for books and magazines, including The New Yorker. In 2013, his book Bijna Compleet (Is That All There Is?) published by De Bezige Bij, is an anthology of nearly all the cartoons he has drawn since 1974; a collection of his cartoons was also published a year earlier by Oog & Blik under the title Niet zo, maar zo! (Not Like That, Like This!). Swarte’s work has been translated into English, French, Spanish, Norwegian, Italian and German and has won many prizes. His work is on display in museums all over the world.
