Poet. Diarist. Translator

Leonard Nolens made his debut in 1969, since when he has published a large oeuvre of poems and diaries. He is considered one of the leading living poets in the Dutch language area whose work has received many accolades, including the Prijs der Nederlandse Letteren, the foremost award in the Low Countries. In 2009, Dagboek van een dichter 1979-2007 (Diary of a Poet) appeared containing all his published diaries, providing a unique insight into a poet’s state of mind. A collection of his poetry appeared in 2012 in Manieren van leven. Gedichten 1975-2011 (Ways of Living. Poems 1975-2011) recently followed by a highly personal bundle Opzichtige stilte (Loud Silence 2014). As a poet, Leonard Nolens combines the musicality of the Dutch language with ideas about identity, life and love. Bres, a bundle published in German by Edition Rugerup, is a significant landmark in Leonard Nolens’s growing ouevre. His work has been translated into 15 languages.
