Marli Huijer studied medicine and philosophy in Amsterdam and is professor of philosophy at Erasmus University Rotterdam. In 2015 she was named Philosopher Laureate of the Netherlands, a variation on Poet Laureate. As such she shares her thoughts on today’s problems with the public. Her books include Ritme. Op zoek naar een terugkerende tijd (Rhythm: In Search of Recurring Time, 2011), in which she examines whether we really are busier today and have less time than we used to. In Discipline (2013), which was translated into German, she focuses on the difficult relationship between discipline and freedom.
