The Gilded Cage, an exhibition about the picture book of the same name nominated for the Youth Literature Award, displays originals by the Belgian illustrator Carll Cneut (*1969) depicting the phantasy worlds in the dramatic, lyrical fairy tale by the Italian Anna Castagnoli. Cneut has translated this legend of power and obsession, metamorphosis and patience into vivid scenarios of incomparable power.

Also on show are Cneut’s sketches of birdlife, using a great variety of hybrid techniques. Their light-touch eloquence encourages children and adults alike to pick up the brush and create an “odd bird” of their own.

The official opening, attended by the artist, begins at 5 pm on 7 October 2016.

On 8 October 2016, starting at 11 am, Carll Cneut will do a bird workshop with children. Later that day, at 8 pm, Carll Cneut will give a talk at the Feuerwache, Bernhard-Ernst-Strasse 12, 48155 Münster.
